7 week PT2.3

Image of the small plan on what I think might happen in the last few weeks of this project. Down below is the writen version on whats really happening.

1 - Getting our brief and discussing how we are going to design the board differently and use Ed feedback to make the board better.

2 -  Created a survey with the question that will help us with figure out what others want to see on the board. Survey been uploaded onto Facebook.

3 - Tobie as our teacher for todays lesson. We started to look up design to help give us some inspiration as well as materials we could use. We had Flo start writing on the board getting everyone to give out different ideas. At this point we have chosen wooden pallet, neon lights or fairy lights and nails. We have also came up with the font for the quote.

4 - Tobie as our teacher. Angel brought 4 wooden pallets so we're partly there with the materials, but we're still looking for the rest. Coming up with a list for the rest of the materials. We are also updating our brief and blog. It feels more like we have a idea for the board, we know what we want the wall to look like, which I feel is a big step for us and next week could be the start of our wall, quote project.

5 - At this point, we have decided to use neon lights, that a font is a bit useless since with the nails you can't create a font with nails and the lights. Now it looks like we might be scraping the idea of the wooden panel. Now it looks like we might still be doing the wooden panels we just need to try and not add extra nail holes to the wall and only the holes already in the wall which could be where the wooden outline panels could go so that we can then add the other panels along.

We are also taking away the boards which will be the start of our quote project. Searches on Homebase for hammer and nails and sandpaper. Ebay order for the neon light start. White light, 5m =8 x £4.89 = £39.12

£200 budget = 142.68 left
- 39.12
-14.00
- 4.00

Shops - Homebase for hammers, nails and sandpaper. Amazon-Neon lights. Poundland for batteries

Idea for board =

6 - We now have the light for the board, they are a bit thinner then what I thought they were going to be but they are long so they will work. I think when it comes to adding the lights onto the board, when spelling out the word it's going to have to to be all joint together since they can't be cut. I think either we use each light for one word or if long enough use four of the lights for each board for both words. It's the only way I can think of it happening.

We all went outside and removed the extra wood board from the panel and kept the rest in their original condition. Next we hd to sand down the panels to make they smooth and so no one would get splinters off it. In break I started sanding down the extra wood to use to widen the panels or to add on to help fill out the gaps. We then got into groups or on our own and work on the different panels. I worked with Brandon and for our panel we need to widen it to get the right length. So far our problem is trying to attach the extra wood on the length on the side. So for next week we need to find a way to attach it to the side. We also once the extra side length is attach we then need to add on the border wood. Measurement we know by the cut out, so as long no one takes that piece of board we don't need to remeasure

7-Today we should be finishing our typography, what needs finishing is adding the extra wood to help widen the panels and fill in the gaps then adding the lights. Nick said we need to go to Homebase to get tack for the light to help turn them into letters.

Today lesson me and Brandon finished adding the extra wood to the panel to make it wide, we both saw some of the wood and placed them on the panel. Nick screwed the boards together so that they were stuck together. The extra panel will be placed on the wall once We've gotten the square panel onto the wall. Inside we started doing the lights. We only got to do the top word 'Get' which we used tape for now to stick the light down before adding the tacks. At the end we didn't add the tacks nor did we get to add the second 'Get'. But I think at this point the get looks good.

Project to be continued in January.

Primary research PT1

This the infographic I made from the results I got from my survey I made.

For the survey I used google forms to create my survey on the sent of on Facebook. I then used piktochart to create my infographic poster.

LJ HUGS 2

For my product idea, I will be making 2 paper menu's, the main menu and a kids menu. The idea is for the main menu to be a brochure something that people who are on the move can just pick up or the staff could hand out.

Why I choose the menu is because The only menu they had where the blackboards and I thought if someones on the move but can't stop to look then a paper menu could be a good idea for someone to just grab or have the stuff hand them out around town.

Because his target audiences are family's I created two a normal menu and kids. The kids will have a Wordsearch to keep them entertained whilst the parents are getting the food or wait for in line. I feel this would be good for at the rugby club, more of a family and better places to sit.

I know LJ's history started out with just Louise and his brother, now with more staff. I also know that he started his food business to get families together and to eat healthy food, which he has provided.

The kid's menu will be A4 size menu, with the top half as the menu and for the bottom half to have puzzles like word search and maybe another. On the back will be an image of the LJ Hugs shack in black and white so that it can be coloured in. The idea for this is if Louise is interested, that the colouring could be a kids competition each month and winner gets a free kids meal.

Main menu

This is the finished menu for the proper brochure with being a bit bigger with the right font, colour (Similar to his colour scheme and the menu) I'm also thinking about adding images to the menu.

Kids Menu

This is the finished Kids menu. It is different from the main menu but because of the word search It had to stay big and it was big enough for the kid's menu at the front as well as fitting a word search at the back.

LJ Hugs

idea - paper menu

We had louise come into college to talk about the history of LJ Hugs and how it all started.

The shack started almost 2 years ago. Started with him and his brother then grew to 8 staff. Main places he cook is Bath town, Bath rugby and Baths university.

He describe him staff and himself as happy, bubbly, very involved with the customs. ME as a custom would agree with this, even when the food wasn't ready they still talked to the custom whilst cooking and it was really nice.

This piece of information, 'gluten free and allergies free, signed off' will be very helpful for my menu because I don't have to list anything that might have something relating to allergies plus being signed of means that will also need to be on there for people to see.

He was also talking about trying to get the shack indoors, There is meant to be one in the corridors which would be nice and another is he wants to maybe use a warehouse which I think would be cool by the way he was describing how he wants it to look.

He's also planning on moving to Bristol and start another LJ Hugs, which his brother will be running.

When it came to let downs, Louise said him main one was Instagram because of the number of followers and the images which are mostly the same and really not something he's that interested in. He did mention that he wanted to higher someone to work the social media accounts.

His customs want improving on time, they want a longer opening time.

PT2.1

For the boards I think that it should be layout with one board having the words It Doesn't' another "get better" because I think it would read better and look better and I think everyone agreed.

An idea i had was is using the laser cutter and if possible cut out see-through plastic and apply images behind it. Another is cutting out word in letters and laster cut patterns on.

Here is the image of the whiteboard where we gave our idea and had them write up.

What we decided was to use wood, nails and mirrors. Nails would be used as texture. The idea (what I think) Is to either get cut out wooden words and to hammer nails into them to give them texture or to get wood and use the nails as the words. What at the moment plan is to use the nail as the words then thread fairy lights around them.

The Font we decided to go for Arial.

Idea is to have fairy light, dark paints for the panel to help the words stand out in the dark. The budgets we got is £200. The idea its to thread the lights. Theres been an email sent to get 4 panels of word.

Piktochart

On Piktochart I created an infographic for my brands from the feedback I  got from questions I wrote. What I did was add different styles of charts so that it wouldn't look boring with the same old chart. All results are from family and friends, fan groups and college.

link
Chart

This is a smaller image of my chart.
Starting with the gender, I had more females then male who took part in this survey. This show for the bag I should aim more for the females then males. Cath Kidston had more yes then no when it came to 'do you know the brand Cath Kidston' which show she is a bit more popular amount the group of people. Age's of the most people who took the survey were 18-35. Their were also older ages but it seems more younger people did the survey.

Most popular bag was the backpack, which help me choose which bag to use of my project. With the gothic fashion more said depended, which shows that the bvag i design could go either way depending if has a design that people like or otherwise most people won't buy. Shows that It might not be a big hit if it was a real project.

When asked would you buy a Cath Kidston bag with a gothic twist the popular answer was maybe which means it could again go either way. At the end I think not a lot of people would buy the bag because either they don't like gothic design, the bag too female for them or they don't carry a bag or anything that they would need a bag for.

brand review

After my presentation, Nick, Ed and Matt all gave me feedback. The goods were for Amy Lee I wrote down each social media account and the number of followers she has. Another was the two brands because they're both completely different designs it gave me a bit of a challenge but I think went well and they agreed. A good part of the presentation was both slides with the drawn bag and the finished design. The drawn one I put images of inspiration that I used for my bag design which ed looked liked he like what I did and the finished project I did zoom in on the picture of the drawings.

The Improvement is Amy Lee, Matt suggested that if I were to do this again what I should do it more research on Amy Lee to see if she's done other promotions for other brands. I could have also done more research on Cath Kidston. Even though I did the social media for Amy Lee, Matt suggested that I should have also looked up the number of people that actually view her pages than just the people who followed her.

Ed suggested that the price could have been higher since Cath Kinston prices are high, so maybe could have been a bit realistic.

What I've learned from this is that one when looking up celebrity social media it's better to write the number of people who view their pages because it gives a more realist of people who would see and probably buy it. It is also harder to get others to fill out a survey. Another is that I found is hardly anyone in college, fan group and friends and family on facebook do not like gothic clothing so for me, it was even more of a challenge to get to fill it out because they would be ok with cath Kidston but the gothic design not so much. For me, in future, if I did another fashion brand I think I would do a survey on the different brand that's not gothic since hardly anyone like gothic. With Marketing, I feel that it's easy because of social media and choosing the right celebrity helps.

evidence of schedule and management

When it come to selling a book the importance is the book cover, since that is the first thing people are going to see and debate whether to pick it up or not. So the image need to be something eye catching and relates to the story. Down below is the image of my book cover Polly.

On the cover is the doll Polly, because it has a main part in the story it lets the people see what the doll looks like. Also with the image is the weird smoke effect which I think helps the cover look more about paranormal which is one of the genres. This should help sell the book.

What is also important is too is the sell's, thats something that needs to be kept an eye every month, I would say. Way's on finding out how the book is doing is the income

If the book is going on e-book, thats another way to help keep an eye on sales, you can see the rates for different month on how well the book is doing or not doing. Also it, i think would help is to lower the price form the paperback.

If it comes to a stand still then thats when you can start coming up with ways to help the book selling rate go up. This is where advertisement help. I think the best is social media because with media like Facebook you can see the amount of people who's seen your post as well as like and share it that way you can look up pages like fan groups and add link on to there, mainly if the audience is somehow relates to something with the book. Twitter is another good way for advertise. Again it's a good way to see the amount of people re-tweeting the link.

Another is a book trailer/advert. To save money you could make your own if you have the right skills or pay and get it places on tv and social media. A lot of books don't have advertisement unless the author is well know so if you want others to see your book you have to make the effort to self advertise it yourself.

A lot of book are being sold on amazon and again because more people are using the internet more these days putting your book online is a great way to sell your book plus on amazon when a custom looks at certain stuff and amazon with send a link showing thing that they think the custom might like to look at, which is more advertisement.

cash flow

This is something I did try to come up with a cost for and from people and publishers the price of the advance the author gets is made up casue the prize is between 5,000 to 15,000 so I just made up what I think the advence could be the rest is form research.

The e-book is if I decided to do self-publish, then the royalties is 70% more then going to publishers. Thought it would be good to see the difference between publishers and self-publisher.  The information I got was from kindle self-publishers.

getting it out there

Getting my book starts with where. Places are shops in towns, transportation places, internet like an e-book.

For the price as a paperback the price I would put down as £2.99 and if an e-book the price would be £1.99, that way more people might buy it. The reason I made it cheaper on e-books is that more people are using the internet than getting a paperback so with a lower price more people might be more interested in buying it.

How I would sell my book is an advertisement on social media, magazine or newspaper ad. Another is sharing links to all social media apps and/or create a trailer either make yourself or pay someone to create one for you.

Another way (not sure if this would work) but if you watch a certain youtuber and they've written a book then maybe send them a copy and ask them to give feedback and maybe they might make a review video on the book.

Another is to create a website where people could read the book, the author and have a link to a free read and how to buy the book both e-book and paperback.

If I had to choose a date for when the book should come out on shop shelves and internet would be around October, maybe somewhere a few days after October starts. Because again the book is horror and paranormal fiction and being Halloween month it just seems like the perfect month to bring it out.

selling

With a book published you need to find ways of getting it sold. One is to get a bookshop to sale them. What I would do to help sell my book creates a website which will have a link to buy them.

The best way is to share links on social media, that way it gets shared by others and more people will see it. It's also a good idea to share the link on a fan group whether it's a tv show with the same genre or a book page it as long as it has a similar theme as the book you will get more people interested and maybe a few buyers.

This I would suggest if no publisher will accept your book is to self-publish. That way you can keep an eye on sells chose your own price and basically control it your way. And choose how to advertise it.

Another way to advertise it, which could be asking a local magazine or paper to put an ad in, another is to make a trailer either tv or a social network like facebook or youtube (if wanted make your own up)

Lastly is the ebook, getting it on the internet makes it easier to find and easy access to buying it. It's also a good idea to have 1 to 2 chapters free so that people can read it first and hopefully buys the full book.

With a book based on paranormal, horror and hauntings all fiction there, not the kind of book most people would buy so like I suggested before using social media, fan groups, and advertisement to help get the book out there. It might also help get the book to be sold in a place like airports and train station for people to pick up and read on their journey.

legal and industy obligations

When it comes publishing an important part is the contract otherwise if wanted to take it to the court for any reason the contract could always come in handy.

Another is copyrighted when it's your own story you take all rights to that story so if someone else writes a story similar to what you've written you can take them to court because you've got all rights to that story. Also if you the author wants to create the cover you also gave rights to the graphics and images but this is only if you took the picture or design it.

Brands are something very important. When writing a book it's best not to use any brand names because if you use it in a bad way in the book you could get sued so always best just to make a brand up of just don't say a brand full stop.

identify potential constraints on production

With my business, because it all about publishing a book, a problem with that is getting the book published, that is the main thing to start the business. Now, most likely it will take a while before some company publishes the book.

Now with that done the author will get an advance which means they need to make that back if the author wants to get more money. If not they might have to pay it back at a certain time and date if books don't get sold and make a profit which could also lead to having the books removed from shelves.

Another is finding a bookstore who would be willing to sell the books in their shop.

assignment 2 creative thinking

For my business project, I will be using my book.

For audients, I have decided that the book is aimed at teens and young adults, mostly for the female. Even though this is the audients I've aimed my book at there still could be adult's and some male readers who would also buy this book. Because it has hauntings and if

With my book when it comes to publishers I knew that I could come to the first publisher I found because they might not have published the genre paranormal, horror or as popular. So what I needed to do is to look up different publisher that have published horror books than the ones with the most horror books published.

Also when it comes to having the book placed in a shop I think ways to sell is to also have the book sold in places like the airports and train station that way people on long journeys who didn't think about buying something to help the time go by, and being that this book is something intresting I think something people would pick and read.

PT1.2

For the typography I made 4 boards in Illustrator with the quote "It doesn't get easier, you just get better".

Image below is my idea for the the first line of the quote.

For the words I put them down as one underneath the other because I thought it would be easier to read and for the quote is show how a person would be feel, going up and down, up and down. What i though the design could be is either do is create the image into the words or use the image and imprint the words onto the image as if the word where coming out of the image.
This was the closes picture I could get that kind of visual what I had in minds.

The images I chosen are a dark forest and a abandoned building with loads of doors, To me this discribe the "It doesn't get easier" Like you're on a journey somewhere but it's not going to be easier.

Image below is my Idea for the second quote

The quote I wrote are in a line giving a straight line. For the design It's similar to what I wanted to with the other quote. The images for what I think help represent the quote "You just get Better" is the forest  because it's now bright and there's a path and to me it means that on your journey you found a path to help you on your journey which mean you've gotten better at figuring out where you want to go or where your work is going to.

For an illusion image I chose this I thought it would look cool. I think different colours could make it look better. Illusion is not something I think would look good on the board but if I had to chose one this would be it.

Assessment 2 audience. Evidence of research into target audience

For my business product I have decided to used my book polly. Polly is a horror/thriller book. I put down that the readers are young adults.

Young adult ages between 18-35 year old

Research

Twilight books series
Genre for young adults. Sold 100 millions copies. Teenage, young adults and adults are the basics so divided equalise 33333333.3333 for teen, YA and adults. It could be more for young adult or less. The author Stephanie Meyer also has gain followers among young readers.

Stephen King books

On amazon they have some of his books and book series under teen and young adult so you know there probably been young adults who bought a book form there. Also everyone enjoy a bit of horror obvious not everyone but horror is some we all like whether it's a movie or a book.

The haunting of sunshine girl book series

Her book is based on horror and paranormal and from the style of both cover and story I would say this is more based on teen and young adult. On amazon it is on Amazon Bestsellers Rank it is in 133,368 which is far away but when spit it in 552 for young adult for horror. Also being a young adult myself and having read this book I think other young adults would like this book. Maybe more of the females then the males.
