3 short films

Decemeber

This short film is based on the tree's point off view. When the audients see's it, it looks like a person has just been killed and throught the film it still does up til the near end this we discover that it's a tree. It's different from a feature film because of how quick it is gettting to one scene to the other. It also doesn't have along of talking just sound effects

Vicky and Sam

This short film show 3 writers coming with an idea for a romance and as they are saying what should happened we see it happened, then the couple that the writers are talking about comes into the dinner and thats when they descover that everything they say happened. And at the end the couple breaks up.

This film show 3 people creating a romance between two people which is really happening and everything they say causing the couple to break up. It's show their ideas come to live and see's how it ends.

The internet the truth behind the conspiracy

This short film is filmed as a documenry based on the internet. It's about a man who who is looking for the truth aboth the excist of the internet and on the quest he talks to 2 people and another person who refuses to talk to him.

review of the 3 animation short film

We were shown 3 short films that were all created by plasticine. The first and second film I've have never seen before but the Boxtroll I have.

The Boxtroll even thought I have seen it before it still enjoyable to watch because it showing an inside of how the characters were moving and the bits of information the characters were saying. I did enjoy because I like that as we see the characters talking and moving we can see the man who's moving the plasticine modes faintly show him moving fast along with characters and the fact that his clothes has change showing it's the next day and how long it takes his just to make this one short piece of film.

The film with the green man was weird and kind of gross mostly because of the tongue and brain. he film is something that I wound't really want to see again. It was good they everything was mold to look real like the hands and the face and the was the hands were moving which must have took a long time to get the film completed.

The second film I really didn't like and didn't understand it and again a film that I would rather not see again. It was good on how they made it but it was a bit hard to understand what it was about and the sounds were very annoying.

Secondary Research

For this Secondary research I used the topic The Darkness film which then I'll to be looking up written reviews instead of doing a survey and getting actual people opinions on the film.

These are some of the review for the film.

Primary research

This is a piece of Primary research that I did based on the poster Annabelle.

The Conjuring Use of sounds

In this scene of The Conjuring this is the scene where the mother hears coming from the basement.

Sounds are:
Water dripping
Piano playing a tune
The light bulb being turned on
Light switch flicked on
Floor creek
Light bulb moving.

In that bit of the scene the mother is scared and with not being able to talk, the sounds from the objects are making the noise for her like the sounds in the background meaning it quiet , everyones asleep. The sound of the piano playing is showing people that she's not alone causing her to breath louder.

Next sounds
Sounds are:
Door slamming shut
Her falling down the stairs and banging into the piano
Ball bouncing
Light bulb bursting
Banging at the door
Clapping

All of these sound help makes the scene more intense and when she falls down the stairs it shows how old the house is by the way the sound of them.

Poster primary research and fan poster

Primary research

This is the table we used to write about the poster we were looking at. The poster I used was 'The Conjuring' I wrote what I saw on the poster, the colours, Style and fonts.

From The Conjuring poster, I used the colours which were mostly dark so it went well with 'The Shining' poster as well as the styles of the poster like old, dark. I also used the extra information that 'The Conjuring' used like the director which I added on to the 'The Shining'
Fake poster

This is the poster that I created from the film The Shining. In the poster I put in some of the main things that are in the film like the twin girls, the axe and redrum. For writing wise I added of course the title of the film so that people would know what the film was called, but I think without the title people who's watched the film will know what the poster is for which film.  I also added the 'A Stanley Kubrick film' because on lots of film posters they have either producers or directors, Either their names or something like 'From the director of ...'.

Next Poster

For the next poster, I really like the old theme, dark and misty theme so those are the three main things I want to add to my next poster. The theme for this poster would most likely be a horror/thriller.

Reflex on the last 6 weeks

What was your knowledge of photoshop and poster before we started? What have you learned? What would you do differently next time?

Before starting the publisher lesson 6 weeks ago I did know somethings about photoshop since I did level 2 Media so for me I did have a bit of knowledge on that subject but with things like spot healing tool I didn't know about and found that it came very handy with my 'I am Death' poster so I was glad to have learnt about that tool. Another was the way to change the colouring of an image which I was also glad to learn so that in the future I can use that for Image design's.

Poster's, I really only ever focus on the tile, date and image I never really thought about the primary research and the colouring, or the sizes or really anything.  What I've learnt is the difference between old posters and modern poster. Like the Star Wars poster how with the modern poster with the light saver you get more of a glow affect with them then you did in the old Star Wars poster.

What I would have done differently is when picking out poster's or recreating poster I think I would try and do a different genre poster because all the ones I picked or recreate where horror's and dark effect poster, maybe next time I should pick out a bright coloured non horror poster and see what I could have written about it or recreated with it. So also with the recreating a poster for a film maybe I could off picked out a more happier poster to re-create instead of always going for the darkness styles poster.

Final design and evaluation review Part 2

In pairs/three's we all gave feedback on each person's poster. These are the feedback I got from both of them.

Good feedback:
1. the writing stands out
2. Colours work together, mostly the red and black writing

Improvement
1. Add more Images
2.Get the whole picture (Car light missing)

My own feedback is that I think that the darkest goes well in the poster along with the colourings because there're not that bright of a colours and I think it goes well with how dark the poster is. In all honesty I do/don't agree with the more image feedback.
Do's because maybe I could have took a picture of the road with the sky giving it more of an image along with a car. Why I don't is because I think the lonely car on the road is part of the film and it show's, and I think that the book in the background with the quote it look better because the words of the serial killer hangs over him and so putting the car under the writing does that.

I think that if they had seen the tailer and the original poster they might think of the poster differently maybe, I'm not sure but I think the poster has enough images.

What could have been better is the writing on the right side of the page, it could have been more in the middle then near the edge. Another is the title although they did get that it was the title I think that it could have looked better maybe having the red in the title dribble down or something. I made the title bigger so that it would stand out more and people would get that it was the title but I think I could have added to the title something better then the underline and the spray spots.

Silent film style

This film of Charlie Chaplin is one that I watch when we had to find a a charlie chaplin film to watch. From watching this film I moice that the filming is done on one spot it does move with the actor or do close ups so that something that something that I notices another was that it jumps from one shot to another which is easily notices. The style of the way it was recorded you could tell it was an old camera, not just by the colour but of the way the brightness changed and the tiny glich tat shows up on the film.

I notices that the film had no text in it but writing in the background which means that even without the blank screen with text on it it still has text in the film so that it understands what the film is about.

The other thing is the music which changes as the scene changes which helps with the scene look and sounds better.

Highlights of a silent film

In silent films the highlights are the black and white, the background music, text and the camera shot's, these are the main highlights in a silent film. The way silent films were made was that the camera is aimed at the actor and is keep there then when the person moves it then aiming at their back in the same spot, not moving or if the person was sat down, the camera shot would jump so that it was a wide shot and that the actor is sat for a small moment before standing up. Another is the text, where as watching the actor (Charlie Chaplin) doing funny stuff, people still need to understand what he was saying to make it easier to understand.

When making my film I did use all these things in to my film. I think that if I didn't add text people wouldn't understand what the film is about unlike Charlie Chaplin film he had less text because he's was more about the comedy. Plus since we couldn't do close ups you couldn't see my tattoo so with the text people could understand what it was I was showing him. Another was the music which is important because you need the music to go well with the film because if you're making a comedy and you used horror background music it won't look/sound right, so when doing my film I listen to the music along with the film to see if it fits.

Sound inpact to early cinama and modern cinema

In the early cinema because film were silent they had to use music to show the emotion of the film so people could understand if a scene was sad, happy or funny.

Then when films started to have musicals (Don Juan) I think that gave a nice change. When the film The Jazz Singer was released being the first talkie film, it was a big change from other films because of the talking part which i think gave a big impact to early cinema.

As time goes by cinema films started to have talking parts and sound effects but again music was still important but it was more to set the mood like if they were at a haunted location there would be a creepy music or if it was a romantic film then it would be romanic music.

These days because of the amount of instruments we've got now it gives different and lot of variety of background music plus of all the different genre films we get different sounds than what there was in the earlier time's. I would say that music is not as important as it was in the earlier years but again you still need the music or the film would be dull, but also with big films like Star wars and Jaw, the music is well know from being part of those film, so when people hear it they would automatically think of that film.

Colour wheel

For the colour wheel we all needed to go around the college or town and take 50 photos of different colours. Once we had done that we then needed to get a colour wheel and place it on photoshop. Next we then upload the pictures we took onto our computers and one by one added them to the colour wheel.

With colours there are some that work more better togther then some. One is the printer ink what are cyan, magenta and yellow which help print out colour work. Another thing that colour stand out for are flag for different country they all have colours some are simular. Colours can all relate to feelings.
Colour also means thing like the traffic lights which everyone knows is that red stop amber ready and green go it's always been like that and people are use to it and know the meaning.

This is my Colour wheel

photomation behind the scene

I 'd already planned out what and how I was going to make my film and I had my canon camera and my tripod. It was difficult to get the camera straight then getting the right brightness and colouring since the outside light started to die down changing the brightness of the image.  At the end I finally got it all right but then as I start taking the photos I didn't check the photos were alright before moving on to the next photo because when I decided to look at them most of them had had this orange line along the photo so once I selected them all and started over I then checked them before taking another photo.

Next problem was the battery which went of in the middle of the shoot twist (second was because I didn't change it completely so it died on me) so that was annoying plus the fact that I couldn't find my other battery, so in future It would be better to have that so that I didn't have to waste time waiting for it to charge.

Editing the photos was ok, it was long because I didn't do the easier way but in the next lesson I did do the very much easier way, the only annoying thing was that I had changed the names to the photos so it was the last scenes that that I imported.

With the sounds I re-made the drink which involved me recording each bit of the scene so that when it came to putting it onto the premier pro I then used the sounds, not all the the sounds cause it would be to hard and take so much time trying to attach it to the object. I added music to the photomation more of a rock music cause I think it goes well with making a cocktail theme, I think if I could have find it I would have used the music from Tipsy Bartender.

I really like my photomation but I think that next time I would import the photos to make it easier, but other then that I think it looks good.

I think that animation is a bit tricky, But hopefully I will get better at it.

Final design and evaluation Part 1

For my poster I used the film 'I am Death'. This film is not well known, so I put the synopsis down below.

'It's about a distraught young man who travels down the lonely highway while the wise words of a professional killer hover overhead.'

In my poster I wanted something that related to whats the film is about, like the lonely highway and the wise words of the killer, those where there the two main things I wanted in my poster. The quote in the poster is from the trailer which is my favorite part which was another reason why I wanted the words in the poster. The reason why I put the quote in a book is because with killer they are usually documented in books so I thought about using the book to help give it a reason to have the writing in the poster.

I want the poster to be dark because of the film and the writing I've kept in capitals because I think it looks better for this kind of quote.  I also added both red and black to the writing as representing blood and death.

The picture's I took was the car and the book. What I did was with the car picture I cut out the background and just keeping the car and part of the road. I then lower the brightness of the car to make it look like it's night time. I also crop half of the road just to make the image smaller.

The book, I used the spot healing tool to get rid of all the writing form inside the book because I needed the page to be cleared but I could find a book with clear pages in the library. Next was changing the brightness to darkness cause again the dark helps represent the film. Then I added the text to each side which then I added the colours. Once both images were right I then combined both the images together to make the poster. After that I then add the date and then added the red paint and spray to make the title more noticeable, The spray was to make it look like blood which was why I added it, But I think it could have looked better if I did something else.

Elements that I used for my poster was images (book & car), quote and date. Elements I could have put on the poster to make it better is Names of the actors staring in the film, producers or directors, maybe the company that help make the film. There a few things that I did miss out so next time what I should have done was added the stars name (Zacc Dukowitz and G.W Baily) and either the producer or Director's name.

This is the trailer for this film if you were interested to see it.

Primary and Secondary

Primary Research- Primary research is a research in which people used questionnaires, survey's, small groups or interviews. Primary Research it better then Secondary because with their project they want actually people feedback not one that you fine on the internet or ect, They create surveys and questionnaire and because of the internet they can get everyone feedback from all over the world or even better getting small groups of people and get to tell you face to face. The only problem is that depending where you are you won't get all kind of different answer because if you're in a town where everyone uses the same projects you'll mostly get the same answers or the same people.

Secondary Research-Secondary research is when project that have already been asset and with answers and predictions already out and easy to find, Secondary research collects the details and used that for the project they working on instead of doing what Primary research do and find out the answer by real people and not by others answers without even trying it out and getting real people feedback.

Inforgraphics

I did miss a couple of lesson involving Inforgraphics which meant missing the making the poster and the results for the question we did at the beginning.

I did look up what I did last year to help me remember what I did for Inforgraphics and so I did start drawing the poster and I also came up with the answers I think the question was one of the question we were asked in the quiz but I'm not completly sure.

This is my Inforgraphics poster.

I drawn a picture of a iPhone because it relates to what the question is plus it'd more of a modern day phone.

In my opinion I think Phone's should stay in you bag and not be taken out unless the teachers say other wise or if you need for a piece of work then you should asked the teacher first so there ok with it.

When it comes to phones in class some students are going to say that they should be aloud to have them out but if you're in a classroom with computers I don't see why you would need your phone out. Teacher I could see why they don't want phones out in class cause they are destacting but unless their used for work related then I think it should be ok.

Mash Up poster

For my mash up poster I combined Rush Hour and The conjuring. I used the background from the conjuring and the two stars from RUSH HOUR. I thought that this wold be a different combo because of the fact their both different genre ones comedy and the other is horror. On the poster I add the title combining the two titles plus using different fonts for 'The Conjuring & Hour' because I wanted it to kind of relate to their actual film title. And last I adding the date and a little bit of review.

How can Photoshop be effectively used for image manipulation

Photoshop is used for lots of different things mostly images. It can be used for Fan pics, postcards, posters and books covers. With tools like spot healer that can be used in a magazine involving model face (close up) and help get rid of spots if they have any.

If you'll a fan of a TV show you photoshops can be used to create fan picture but cutting images and attach to you're pic aswell as changing the colours, brightness, add text to it. Mostly anything.

Photoshop you can also make 4 square postcards which you can attach four photos in each corner. It's awesome if you like making you're own cards.

It can also be used for if you're working on a film and need to create a poster, photoshop can be used to combine pictures from the film and attach of onto a poster size page

Scene shot

For films like black and white film you can only have straight, still shots (aiming at the person who's moving and the camera not moving what so ever) there are no close ups so mostly you can do wide, over shoulder, medium shot. With this project you get only limited shots because of it relating to an old filming we need to try and create.

Over Shoulder shot

This was the scene we shot in our silent black and white film. The shot we used in this scene is a over shoulder shot, the reason we used this kind of shot because we wanted the audience to see the person (Ben) reaction to seeing me so whilst you also see a bit a of me you're mostly focus the main person who has more of an reaction whereas I'm just standing their watching him.

Wide shot
The is a wide shot because we need to fit two people as well as have one on the person to move so that their still in the shot as they move. It's not a full wide shot because I don't think you really need to see the feet so this is really more of a wide medium shot because of not showing the below the knees.

Wide/behind shot
Again but we're doing a silent black and white short film the camera has to stay in it's place. This is the shot of Ben running away. I think that it's a good shot and one that would have be used in any other film just with out the different shot, like if it wasn't a black and white movie there could have be one of him from the front with him running towards the camera.

SMART Target

This is my smart target I made for the 1st of the 6 week.

Target 1 is to get my Script 'Polly' done by Halloween, which I've already started but still need's finishing off.

Target 2 is to get a part time christmas Job, Which I've already apply for the job at Hardy's sweets shop just waiting to hear back.

Target 3 Is to try and become more confident for when doing a presentation.

3 Elements of Photoshops

Quick selection tool-This tool is used to cut out of images. For example if you were making a poster and you were using a image that had what you wanted but you didn't want the other images that were in the picture, you would used the the quick selection tool to get rid of everything else except the image that you want or you could use the tool to go around the image and copy it and then add it to the poster. Using this tool you also get these

Which are helpful when trying to edited picture. Using the minus tool that helps when trying to draw around the image you want to keep but sometime the line goes into the image and thats where the minus one is used because using that tool it pushes the line out of that image.

Spot healing brush tool-This is a really good tool to use if you work for a magazine or weddings,  This tools help with the models in the picture for if they have a spot or their skin was looked different tone then the spot healing will help remove it. This show what using a spot healing brush tool can do for a photo.

Colour Picker-Colour picker is great because their are so many different colours for whatever you want the colours for. This could be adding colours to any image that you've drawn, it could be used to change a colour of a image like the sky or some clothing.

portrait film

Our project was to produce a Photomation of ourself. For mine I made a cocktail which once was edit I added music in the background and some sound effects to my film plus writing, so people know how much liquid you need to use.

This was all taken in my room on my small bar, it took a couple of hour to finish because of the brightness changing, getting the tripod up straight, then picture not turning out right and off course the camera battery running out, so that didn't really help at the end I got all my images. Editing them onto Premiere Pro was ok because I was was just editing one at a time, then the next lesson I ended up importing the film just so it'll be done, the only problem was that with half of the film I had change the name so before importing the videos I hadn't change the names off I needed to edit the one that had there named changed.

I think at the end my film came out great I think it looks great, the only thing is that next time I would import it all so that I wouldn't spend so much on editing it and could find ways to make it better and another is to make the title at the begin longer instead of it appearing then disappearing in a flash.

This is my film

Jump suit film

Todays lesson we had to use what we had learn from the last 6 weeks and make a film in are group. We did have a little bit of trouble off coming up with a idea cause it involved Aaron wearing a jump suit and walking around but when we started to record it we notices that there wasn't much to do so we came up with different ideas that didn't work but we finally came up  with Aaron trying to catch a bus but missing it.

It started from the other college building across from the main building on the top floor, Paige was the camera person so she did most of the recording for this film. First scene was recoding from the top floor as Aaron run down the stair up to the point where we couldn't see him. Then we got to the ground floor where we got the side shot of him coming of the stairs and the the door where he leaves. We did another wide shoot from outside the door so we could see him running out the door.

I think my favourite shot was where Aaron is going down the stairs I like the height view of the shot where Aaron is going down the stairs I think the shot from the ground floor could have been a bit better, maybe angled higher so we could see Aaron face.

Outside we did a side shot of him running across the road.  We did two wide behind shot of him running along and towards the building. The last two shots was of Aaron running towards the other entries doors not the main entries. and another side shot of him waiting for the doors to reopen.

I did like the shot with Aaron running through the open gates cause it's steady and a good angle. I think the camera shot for Aaron running towards the build was a bit shaky but it still looked good.

Inside the main building we had lots of different shots mostly wide, behind of him running. The funny part I think was when Aaron helped closed the doors faster then turned and did the thumbs up which I don't think wasn't part of the film but just something he did, But I though t it was funny and I though that it went well with the scene.

The scene where the camera is following him from behind (over-shoulder, shot) i think is my favourite, I think Paige did a good job of recording that scene.

I think the scene with the bus driving passed was a good shot, maybe it could have done without the water droplets on the lens but still a good shot of the bus driving pass. The scene with Aaron running after the bus because he had missed it was funny and a good wide shot.

It was fun making it, It was our first idea so it was near the end we ended up coming up with him running to catch the bus and I think it came out great and maybe if we had thought of it earlier we might have been able to make it better. When edited it I made it into a silent film with only the music in the background, there were sounds from the recording but i think it looked and sound better without because he's not talking in it and I don't think the film would have looked right with the background sounds of the outside and indoors of people talking.

The music is made by Kevin Macleod which I've used before. The music is free but as long as you credit him somewhere in the video or the description below which I did. I found his website from Brittyy44 who uses his music in her videos and I'm sure The haunting of Sunshine girls uses his music as well.

I think the music goes really well with the film I think it makes it more funnier. I was thinking about making it into a black and white film but when I did it, it didn't look right plus I think it's more funnier when you see the purple jump suit.

I am happy with my film, I think I could have came up with a better title and maybe I could off added text but I'm not sure if it would look right with the film, but other then that I think it look great.

Silent film with sounds

In the lesson we had to go back into our that we recorded our silent films with and this time records sounds that goes with what the person moving sounds like or the object sound.

The list of sounds we need for our film was;

Phone typing / turning off
Foot steps, Walking/Running
Door Opening/Closing
Sounds of hands banging into the door.
Book being dropped onto the floor
Water squirting.

They were the sounds we needed to record. We did this in the studio first, then in the corridor for the door sounds and then outside for the background sounds.

The film we used was the silent, black and white film we made last Wednesday with text and music in the background. This week we added sound's to the film making now a black and white film.

In my opinion I don't think the sounds added to the film seem right, I think that it was better without the sounds and left in silent with only the background music. I think because it was original meant to be a silent film and so as I see it, it's just a silent film but adding the sounds ruined it. If it was just black and white and without the text then the sounds would go well with the film.

What I do like is the background music I think that does go well with the sounds so thats one good thing about the sound effects.
