Photo shoot 2, 3

Photo shoot

First time
When I first thought about the book cover I had done a sketch of how I wanted it to look and though about what would be in it which mean thinking about what I had at home that would right in the photo.

When it came to doing the Photo shoot I wanted it to be dark and creepy so I used the black background material for the background. Next was getting the items. Picking the object I had sketched out like the owl box, decanter's, Both dolls and lantern. I then decide about adding the record player to the cover because I thought it looked good together plus the voodoo doll could lean on it so it could be seen. What I also wanted was to have some objects higher the other cause I didn't want it all set out on the floor. I did try and do some research but I couldn't find what I was looking for or nothing was what I wanted. At first I was going to use boxes but never got any, then I found the square black shelves that hadn't been fixed to the wall and so I used those's for Polly and the lantern which I think looked good plus it goes into the background so in the pictures with Polly on her own it makes it look as though she is floating.

When it came to taking the photos I took them on my phone. What I had trouble with was that I couldn't get the effect I wanted when the background was just darkness and not be able to see the material in the background but still have it bright so that the object are still visional. But every time I couldn't get the effect I wanted because of the window above was shining the light down making the fabric visible. I also took some on my camera to try and see if that worked but it didn't.

I then took some picture of Polly on her own and somehow I was able to get the background right and how I wanted it just not for the right photo.  (Picture above)

(Talking about the back cover image)
Using some of the adobe (Lightroom, Illustrator) I was able to change the brightness at the top to make it a bit darker but it still wasn't what I wanted for my book cover so when I looked through the rest of my photos I found the one with Polly on her own and that's when I decided to make that my front cover and the other photo for the back cover (Didn't even think about the back cover until then). So using the Illustrator I added the summary about the book and that became the back cover.

For the front cover, I didn't have a sketch because I didn't originally plan on having it as a front cover, but I did a sketch of what I had and what would need to be added on and what I could add on (the eyes in the background).

I did end up leaving it as just the doll and just added the title and my name I didn't use Lightroom because I didn't think it needed it. I chose pink because it went with her dress. I used this font because I thought it looked nice and different.

When it came to assembling it all together I was told that I couldn't use the photos because they were taken from my phone and the pixel was low so they wouldn't work so I had to retake the photos with my camera.

Second time

For the second time, I used my camera to take all of my photos. There were a few accident shots where my camera wasn't working (Must have changed the setting and not realise it) so some were blurry. Once the camera was working probably I was able to get a few good ones. What I was worried was that I wouldn't get the same effect with the Polly doll like I did on my phone but lucky enough I did and was happy with them.

Going through the photos my mum pointed out to one of the blurred ones and said that it looked like a demon or spirit was coming in/out of the doll. Because of that feedback, I decided to use that photo because it had the cool effect that I wanted.

Original photos

Back                                                                Front

For both of them, I used the light room. The back cover to make it darker and to get rid of the material in the background. Front to darken the doll a bit and the cut the blurred effect down and away from the top each of the book.

Edited photos

Lastly, I put them on InDesign and added the summery for the back cover and the title and my name to the front cover.

On both the sketches there were some difference's and changes I made for the covers like with the back cover I was going to using the internet to put a wooden floor including part of the bottom part of a pentagram but ended up using the whole black background and forgetting the pentagram. Another was changing the photo to become the back cover and not the front cover like I original planned it to be.

For the front cover it was just going to be Polly just sat there and maybe some eyes in the background beside her looking straight at the audience. Another was the blur effect which was the blur effect which makes it, I think looks better.

Researching print buying (cheapest)

In Steve's lesson we leaned about different book printer and are task was to look for the best website that cost the cheapest.

The items were

Business cards

Leaflet

Brochure

Steve had already put a few websites on the board, Some more know then others like for me i know Vista Print because of the advertisement fromTV. I thought they were the cheapest because of the amount of cards you can get for a low price, what I didn't know was that it charges for delivery so it is a bit of a con because they leave that detail out of the advert or I just don't see it.

For my research I found this.

Business Cards- Moo £26.38 + VAT 21.98- (Might have done this one wrong)
                         - Instant Print £17 + VAT (Delivery £4.99, free if you spend over £75

Leaflet- Helloprint £30.56 VAT £36.67

This is very useful for if I want to look up for more different book printing website and try and find the cheapest one.

4 opportunities

For my FMP I wanted it to relate to the paranormal and so for my 4 opportunities I chosen Book, short film, website and a Magazine. I chose these 4 because they seem like the best to do a paranormal themed based.

Book-Create a story baed in a haunted building or on a doll or a killer spirit (This was the one I chose to do for my FMP)

Short film-Create a short film based in the woods, a house or have a creepy or odd looking doll.

Magazine-Could write about different haunted buildings around the world, haunted object, ghost hunters and maybe some random facts.

Website-Could base it in Bath and talk about ghost sightings and buildings that are meant to be haunted as well as talk about the ghost tour around bath.

I ended up choosing the book since it something I'm more interested in doing and with doing the book i will also being making a trailer for the book.

This is the plan out for my book using the same website. For book I've got down research, story and book cover. For Trailer I wrote main as in what are the main things I'm going to need for to make the trailer like locations, props and equipment.

I think i made the right chose for my FMP and I can't wait for it all to come together.

Reflection course

Steve Spicer- Animation

September 2016

For the first lesson with Steve we learnt about Types and layout, Typeface and Fonts, Serif and San-Serif, Kerning and Tracking, leading and grids. Again. I would say it was easy because I had already learn it last year when doing Level 2 media. Because of level 2 I had an Idea on how to write it all out, the hard bit was trying to write it out differently from what i had written last time so that it didn't look like I had cheated and looked up what I did last year.

October 2016

Infographic, because I missed the lesson where we got the results for the test we did the week before I had to make up the results. I did look up the infographic i did in level 2 to give me an idea on what it should look like. Lucky I remember the question on phones so I used that for the infographic. I think it came out looking good even with the different result form everyone else.

With the colour wheel it was easy to do just go out in town and take different colour pictures from objects around town then finding a colour wheel on google and place each colour on the colours similar to the pictures. That was an easy lesson to do.

November 2016

Slow motion animation

It was a very interesting lesson, not something I would do for a future job but like I said was very interesting. Looking at different ways slow motion animation is done is cool from plasticine to wool. When we had to go into groups and do our own animation It was fun and I think our animation came out looking great.

November 2016 - March 2017

Drawing the animation was both easy and hard depending on what I was drawing. Using adobe Animate was easy to use a few confusing bits but most it was easy to use. When it came to draw there was some animation that was easy to draw like the cat and the sleeping animation, but when it came to drawing the walking and eating that was hard to and it definitely showed since the cat didn't look like he was walking and when he went to eat his food his head got bigger and his tail looked different from the other pictures I drew. I would say doing the animation has been both easy and hard to do, things I need to improve on is the speed and drawing.

Ty-Publishing

October 2016

With Type we got to learn different photoshop tools like the spot tool which was an interesting tool and a usually tool for a project. Another was the quick selection to which I already knew how to use but it was interesting to use it in a different way.  These tools were using when creating our own poster for 3 different film (The shining).

Making the mashup film poster I didn't confused a bit and ended up making two one for the film 'I am Death' and the other combining the conjuring and rush hour. Both I think came out looking good and it was fun to do. We also had to do primary and secondary research on other posters.

November 2016- December 2016

We started the re-made game board, this we could go into groups or do one our own. I decided to do it on my own and I think my came out great I re-made the snakes and ladder game and turned it into a drinking game changing the dice into questions relating to cocktails drinks. My problems was doing the liquid (replacing the ladder) to go down into the glasses, I ended have Ty help me with that. I the next thing was the printer, it seemed that every time I pressed print the printer would stop working so I was behind and more annoying no one could try it out. Lucky I finally got it printed out so had my work all out and something to show. It was a fun lesson, but also frustrating as well.

We also had to do research on board games and write about our target audience for the board game. Another was writing out what research we did, what on photoshop did we use and how it came out and if we were happy about it.

Nick- Publishing

February 2017

Before doing the booklet we had to do a blog on out fashion inspiration.  The fashion booklet was not something I really enjoyed that much. There were a few good moments when doing that project but not something I would do again. What I did enjoy was the photoshoot and arranging them into the booklet.

Ed-Moving Image

September 2016

For the first lesson we learnt about black and white films, which including watch a Charlie Chaplin film then go into groups and recoded our own. The filming was a bit hard because we were limited of the different shot we could do but again it was easy because when it came to editing I could add text so that it would make understanding the scene easier.

October 2016

Still learning about silent film, we now added music to the films we did which was easy to do. Another silent film we did in different groups was the jump suit film Because that was what Aaron was wearing, it was hard trying to come up with a film idea but at the end we finally did come up with one. Editing was easy to do, for me was adding the music since the first time didn't work which was annoying cause I thought the music made the film better. Second time the music uploaded as well.

Along with learning about silent films we had to do research about the early cinema sound input which was both easy and hard to write about but I think I had a good enough information.  Another was highlights of a silent film which I used images from a Charlie Chaplin film and write the main thing form a black and white film like the sound, Shots and and text. Using a charlie chaplain film we need to write about the style of the black and white film.

We also look up film scene that involving the different sound affects as well as looking up how the sound affect need in film are made which was interesting. We also needed to find different secondary and primary research which involved doing a questionnaire and looking up review from films

November 2016

We looked up different job's relating to a film set and where do they belong in the 3 category. We also had to make a film using 5 different film shot which was easy to do and was easy to do. The next film was based on breaking the 180 degree which was actually harder to do then I though it would be. Lucky when Ed looked through our's we had one scene that broke the 180 degree.

Doing the Reece lesson was hard for me when walking to the places we needed to go to. I was to take picture of the area where you could film.

December 2016

We all had to start planning out our short film based on a scientist breakthrough on cold fusion. We had to write a scrip, find a location and do blogs about what we were doing and also to describe what the characters are and what they would look like and props. That was easy to writing it all out.

January 2017 - February 2017
We started the recording of our short film so that was spent out of class and just getting on with it. Mine I did my out of college time so I got more time editing and trying to do special effects (which didn't turn out right) This lasted till February because we also had to do blogs on our film. Even with the extra time to edit the film I could add the effects I wanted mostly changes to certain colours but other then that I think it came out looking great plus with the extra time I got to add stuff in which I missed out, so it did help when I did my film in my own time.

Jo-Theory

November 2016
For the first lesson with Jo we look up about brands and the changes form what they original looked like and what they look like now. i used the CBS logo form what it first looked like and what it looks like now. We used piktochart to help create the poster about the brand we use and different facts about it.

December 2016

We started to leant about pitches and the elevator pitch. We then had to come up with a produce in 2's or on our own. We then needed to stand up in front of everyone and do a 30 second pitch. Before the holidays we all needed to do a 2 minute pitch, which to me was scary I came in and did it. I was very happy when only 5 students came in so I only had to do it in front of them and Jo which I was very happy about.

January 2017

We then started to look at jobs relating to media which was interesting, we also looked at some websites that I've seen before but was also interesting to see again and all the different jobs.

February 2017

The next subject was how women are viewed in the filming industry, form behind the cameras. It was shocking to see that there are not a lot of female directors, writers or producers. But it was cool to see website's try to get more females working behind the camera and having actress Geena Davis as a spokes women and founder for the website. I hope that it will change in the future since i want to be a screenwriter and seeing the least amount of female writers makes me feel like that I won't get anywhere in writing a movie because it'll need to be male writers.

Tom-Audio

September 2016

Our first lesson was learning about Photomation which was interesting and something new. Leaning what it was we then had to come up with making a film based on ourself. My was making a cocktail (Woo Woo) Which was fun doing (except for the camera dying on me) Editing it was hard work only because I somehow did hear about faster way to edited together which I then used and got it all done.

November 2016

The other project was a choose from making a comedy video, a documentary or a radio show. Because I had missed read it i chose the documentary but when I found out I had to actually do a documentary and not talk about one I changed it to the radio news report. Lucky for me the warrens occult museum had some news about the museum so I got to use that and I think it came out great (a few mistakes)

December 2016

We then started by making a podcast based on a previous project. I talked about envelope of love and the different sound effects I did. It was ok, I didn't really like the way my voice sounded but I think it came out good.

January 2017

With my radio news we then had to do an up-date by finding ways to improve it. Lucky for me there was a bit that needed improving like untrue fact (Lorraine's age)‚ Added facts, the voice volume and the jingle. Once everything had been updated it sounded a lot better

February 2017

February was mostly just working on the brief for Audio.

Logo's

Logo without pencil leaving the page

This is the fifth logo I drew that i liked the best out of all 6 of them. I all just swirls which kinds of looks like an animal like a turties to me.

Helvetica Logo

For the Helvetica I used the narrow bold and wrote the letters of my name and surname (forgetting the Y) I moved them about around each other and try and combined them together. I like the different colours of the shaded grey and the black.

Image Logo
This is the image logo where I drew a flower, it a bit different to what I was going to drew but I think it came out great.
