Cold Vs Fire short film

For some reason my video can't be viewed because of restricted Mode. I've tried to turn the restricted Mode off but it won't, I think it could just be the computer since someone was able to comment on it.

Was my project successful - if not why? Break down the elements i.e audio/visual

Production
I would say that my project was partly successful and partly not so successful. Recording-Because of the rain I did the outside first instead of indoors like I had plan to do because it started to rain and not wanting to chance it I decided to record the outside first then the indoor shots. Turns out it did rain and The recording took longer then I thought it would and now the day time look wrong cause indoor through the window it's getting darker where as outside it's still got day light.

Filming (focus)-Because of the camera I was using, that's when it came to POV (me holding it and moving around with it) it would go out of focus which was really annoying. I think it was ok that it went in and out of focus when The scientist is dying it looks like he's going in and out of conscious but other then that it wasn't really that good.

Post-Productiom Special effects- They're are a view things in my film that I wanted to change the colour of like the BB gun, lighter and tv, but every time I tried to it would change anything with the similar colour or change into a completely different colour then what I was asking for. I used youtube and watch clips from other doing and It always looked easy but when I tried it it never worked. It's my fault because I was meant to buy a black bb gun but forgot.

Audio-It was windy out so when listening back to the audio you can't hardly hear different footsteps and the car engine and the noises of the car in the background didn't help with the sound either, so I ended up using free sounds to get the sounds that I needed,. which I think sounds better.

Music-I've used 4 pieces of music and the third piece (Scenes leaving the bedroom to the back garden) that was for me really hard because I couldn't find a piece that sound right for that scene and usually, I think, I'm good at finding the right music to put with the scene but this was difficult. I finally found a piece and added it to the film but when listening it again a week after adding it, it didn't sound right so I had to look for another music piece and I did find another music piece which I think is a lot better but I think another could be better if I could find what i was looking for.

  • What feedback did you receive from your peers? How will you capture this? (Youtube Comments?)
When we had to watch each other's film I was told that they liked my film and the fire part. I also got a youtube comment from Conna saying "I love it Meg, good editing! Was fun filming too!"

I'm really happy that that someone like's it and very glad that he had fun filming.
  • What would you change/do differently?
Production
What I would change is the order I recorded this, I would have done indoors first then outside and if it did rain then I would just have to make it work with the film. Another would be the POV I would not do that if I had known how difficult it would be to record and done different shots.
  • How will you improve for your next project?
Production
Choose better shots or try out before hand. If it gets dark quickly alway do the 1 scene no mater what and if weather is bad just find a way to work around it or with it. Another would be have an extra day to film incase of any mistakes.

  • What did you enjoy/not enjoy?

Production
What I did enjoy was working with my cousin Conna it was fun getting him in involve with my film and lucky he had fun as well (even if it took a while to record everything). The was recording the fire that was fun and cool and looking at it in the film I think it looked great.

What I didn't enjoy was the indoor recording because a person was telling me to hurry up whilst I was already stress with trying to get my camera to focus whilst walking around with it for the POV shot, so future maybe not do it at a house and where family are around (cause they were not helping).

Post-Production
I like finding the perfect music piece to go with the film that was fun. I also enjoyed editing the video clip together cause I knew what needed to go where and it was easy and simple to do, plus it was nice looking back at all the clips and seeing what I had recorded.

Another was some of the special effects only the ones involving changing the colour of a object that was not fun and I still didn't get it so it all stayed the same colour which was annoying cause I think it would have made the film look a bit better.

  • How effective was your production team?

Because I missed a week I wasn't sure which team I was in and not wanting to waste the week and the only day Conne knew he was off work that also worked for me I did the recording on my own but I think I did a good job on it and I'm very happy with what I did. Conna helped a bit with watching the clips back with me to see what he thought, plus he was my safety guy with the fire as he put it out for me.
  • How effective was your planning in terms of execution?

I think my planning was good, I had may scripted with the camera shots on so I knew what shots I needed, I had most of the stuff i need for the film all packet and ready (Conna had the other stuff like clothing and the bb gun) Their were a few thinks that didn't go to plan (day time turning to night) but mostly it all did and I'm happy with that. I had writing down everything I needed then marked off what I got, what Conna had and what I need to borrow from college.
